DOT and FAA Finalize sUAS Rules
Today, the DOT and FAA finalized rules pertaining to commercial use of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). The full press release can be found here: https://www.faa.gov/news/press_releases/news_story.cfm?newsId=20515
We are an FAA approved test center and will administer the required exam once the FAA makes them available to us. As of today the FAA has not yet made the written test available to authorized centers; however, we believe that information is imminent.
V1 Aeronautics will be offering affordable recurrent courses covering all topics in the aeronautical knowledge test required for the remote pilot certificate with sUAS rating.
The cost and details of the course will be released in the coming weeks. If you are interested in attending a course, please CONTACT US and we’ll add you to our list. We expect high demand in the coming months and will fill class seats on a first-come-first-served basis, so contact us as early as possible to reserve your seat.
To be eligible for a remote pilot certificate with sUAS rating you must:
– Be at least 16 years of age
– Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English
language. However, the FAA may make an exception if the
person is unable to meet one of these requirements
due to medical reasons, such as a hearing impairment.
– Be in a physical and mental condition that would not interfere with
the safe operation of an sUAS.
– Pass an aeronautical knowledge test at an FAA-approved
knowledge testing center (KTC).
If you currently possess a pilot certificate issued under part 61 (non student pilot), you do not have to take the aeronautical knowledge test, but you must have completed a flight review in the last 24 calendar months and must take an online Part 107 training course.
